Termites

Termite Prevention For Established Homes

1.

Initially, a qualified Ausmic serviceman will make a thorough inspection of your home to detect any termite movement.

2.

A thorough inspection of the timber in the roof is required in the case termites have entered the home through wall cavities or other hidden areas where operator inspection is not possible.

3.

Rodding is a method used to saturate the soil around the foundations of your home. This is done to guard against termites following underground services to your home, such as plumbing, SEC cables, telephone cables etc.

4.

To create a continuous barrier around your home, a trench is dug and saturated with a highly effective termite proofing solution. This stops termites entering into cavity walls and small cracks from just beneath the soil surface. Trenches are then back-filled.

5.

Dependent on the construction type of your home, the trench treatment will also be applied under the floor area against wall and floor supports. In confined areas the soil will be saturated with termite proofing solution.

6.

Termites often colonise under patios, garages and concrete floors and attack your home from these hidden areas. To stop this activity we drill small holes at regular intervals and pump anti-termite solution at high pressure to create a complete termite barrier.

7.

Brick and concrete block walls for retaining soil, used in building foundations, are proofed to prevent termites from entering through cavities and voids.

8.

Ausmic's highly trained Termite Control Specialists leave termites with no place to hide. They treat many areas easily overlooked by less experienced operators.

9.

It is equally important to inspect the yard of your home for termite infestation and deal with it before a large colony establishes.

10.

Even though the exterior proofing has been performed, it is crucial to continue an ongoing protection policy. For example, water flow from drain pipes and gutters can erode the protective barrier.

10 Frightening Facts About Termites

1.

Termites strike more individual homes and cause more damage than fires, storms, floods and earthquakes combined.

2.

You cannot buy termite insurance. The insurance risk is too high, and too costly.

3.

Termites DO attack homes built on a concrete slab. They can enter through concrete, mortar and bricks, and once inside are almost impossible to detect.

4.

Termites build mud tunnels many metres long to carry them across concrete, iron, treated wood and any other material to reach the vulnerable wood in your home.

5.

Termites shun light and air, usually eating only the inside of wood. So, wooden joists and rafters may look solid while they are actually hollow.

6.

Termites can live happily in the soil of your yard for years, feeding on old wood. However, they may attack a new home within days of it being built. The most inexpensive time to stop termites is while they're still in the ground.

7.

A heavy infestation could mean up to 250,000 white worker termites (white ants) are searching for and eating wood within your home.

8.

Termites are some of nature's best survival experts. They have existed since before the Age of the Dinosaurs. Today, the only way to stop them is with a preventative barrier.

9.

Termites eat about 120 common household materials. Many home owners find unpleasant surprises in stored suitcases and boxes.

10.

Termites cause millions of dollars worth of damage each year.

Pre-construction Proofing
Chemical or non-chemical. There are many variations if you do not wish to use chemicals.

Stage 1 - soil treatment prior to construction
Under the recommendations of the Australian Standards Council and directed by Local Government By-Laws, the sand pad beneath every new home must be anti-termite proofed prior to the concrete slab being poured. This procedure is mandatory and forms part of your building contract.

Stage 2 - vital for total protection
In accordance with The Standards Code, total protection against termites can only be achieved if all recommendations of proofing are carried out on your new home.
Your home is not fully protected after proofing to the sand pad only. Once construction commences, the lower perimeter walls beneath the soil level can create numerous entry points for termites. These include weep holes in the mortar between the bricks, minor cracks and gaps around plumbing pipes to the kitchen and bathroom areas etc.
These invasion routes allow termites to enter through cavity walls into roof timbers and the interior of your home attacking carpets, furniture and fittings etc. Ausmic's 2nd Stage prevents termite attack by carrying out the following stages.
